Kitty Boyd Garden
The beautiful flower bed surrounding the flagpole is dedicated to Katherine “Kitty” Boyd. Kitty was a native New Yorker, who moved to Loudoun County in 1955 with her husband Bill. Kitty had an amazing devotion to the Dodona Manor restoration, along with the Loudoun Hospital, and Loudoun Preservation Society. Kitty shared a passion for historic preservation with her friend, B. Powell Harrison, so when he got the idea to save Dodona Manor, she didn’t hesitate to partner with him. Kitty served on the Dodona Manor Board of Directors and remained dedicated to furthering the cause to save and restore the home and legacy of General Marshall up to her death at 99 years of age.
The three pictures above show the Kitty Boyd Memorial garden in early spring. The photo on the left shows the Flagpole donated by General Marshall’s alma mater, Virginia Military Institute (VMI). Beneath the flagpole are dwarf forsythias, spirea, a shadblow bush. As you can see in the second photo are three American Boxwoods surrounded by a field of day lilies and iris flowers.
Directly across the brick walkway from the Kitty Boyd garden is a small bed containing two viburnum bushes, a lush field of naked lady flowers and daffodils. On the right is a dogwood tree.
